“The greatest job in the world”
A farewell message from Turkey Hill Dairy president Quintin Frey
Throughout my career at Turkey Hill Dairy, and especially as president of the company for the past 22 years, I've firmly believed that I have the greatest job in the world. Not only do I have the privilege of leading a wonderful company founded by my grandfather, but we create great products that make so many people happy.
I thank God every day for blessing me with the opportunity to do something I truly love and for guiding me in the next step of my life: retirement. That's right, even though I have the greatest job in the world, I've decided that the time is right for me to step aside and let someone else experience the joys of leading one of America's best companies.
This Sunday, August 4th, will be my last day as Turkey Hill president. Some of you might have already heard about my retirement plans (it was officially announced about a month ago), but I've decided to wait until now to announce it on our website and blog. It works out better that way, because I've never been one for long, drawn out goodbyes.
The good news is, I don't have to say goodbye. I'll still be involved with Turkey Hill Dairy on an almost daily basis as a Turkey Hill Brand Ambassador at special events, conferences and trade shows. I'll travel the nation (and the world!) telling people about the rich history and success of Turkey Hill and how we really do have the best fans any company could ask for.
I'm proud of many accomplishments in my two decades as president of Turkey Hill Dairy. I'm proud of the growth of our company, which has more than tripled in size since I became President. That accomplishment was due to the hard work of many people, not just myself. I owe much of that success to my executive team and all of my Turkey Hill associates and customers.
I'm also proud to have overseen the construction and opening of the Turkey Hill Experience, which opened its doors in 2011. The Experience pays homage to Turkey Hill's history and it has become a destination for families in search of wholesome fun and education.
Most of all, I'm proud of our company's generosity. Over the 20+ years of my tenure, millions of dollars in cash and products have been donated to hundreds of worthwhile charities. As a successful company, we strive to be good citizens of our community and are privileged and honored to be able to give back to it.
So, what am I looking forward to after retirement? Faith, family, friends and food, are just a few of the many things I'll be spending more time on. I'll also travel more. Teaching might be in my future — at least on a part time basis — at church or perhaps in a college or university setting. Whatever I do, I know my wife, kids and grandkids will be with me every step of the way, and I'm looking forward to sharing those experiences with them.
I'd like to end with one of my favorite quotes by the Apostle Paul. It's a quote that I've recited many times over the years in speeches and conversations with members of the Turkey Hill team:
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.”
Throughout my life, the Apostle Paul's words have guided me as a husband, a father and as a business leader. We need to look out for ourselves but, more importantly, we need to look out for others. Do that, and you might wake up each day, like I do, feeling like you've got the greatest job in the world.
