Turkey Hill is Pennsylvania's number one ice cream.
2007 not only marked Turkey Hill Dairy's 76th year of sharing Lancaster County goodness, it was also the Dairy's first year as the most popular ice cream in all of Pennsylvania.
Turkey Hill Dairy's ice cream sales in Pennsylvania increased by 8% in 2007. The brand now accounts for 27% of all ice cream sales within the commonwealth. This increase occurred while other top brands, such as Breyer's and Edy's, saw declines throughout the state.
The greatest area for growth was Pittsburgh and the surrounding markets in western Pennsylvania. Last year, 222% more Turkey Hill ice cream packages filled home freezers for birthday parties, family picnics, and everyday enjoyment in western Pennsylvania.
While the Dairy has consistently been a favorite in the Philadelphia and Central Pennsylvania markets, the number of brand loyalists in those markets also continues to increase. Sales in the Philadelphia region were up by 4.6%, an increase of over $1 million. The Central Pennsylvania region, including markets from the Maryland border to New York state, saw a sales increase of more than $23 million.
Turkey Hill Dairy has certainly evolved in the seventy-six years since the Frey family began selling milk from their farm during the Great Depression. On Sunday afternoons, they would use the leftovers to make strawberry ice cream for their family and neighbors.
"My grandparents started making ice cream here in 1936 to share with their neighbors. They would be so proud to know that their recipes are now the favorite of a neighborhood that includes everyone in Pennsylvania," said Quintin Frey, president of Turkey Hill Dairy. "Our secret for success continues to be that simple - a commitment to sharing traditional recipe ice cream made with the highest quality dairy products and the freshest ingredients."
Today, Turkey Hill's products are shared all along the East Coast, from Maine to North Carolina, and west to Detroit. Product lines now include a variety of ice creams, frozen yogurts, ice cream sandwiches, and cold fashioned drinks and iced teas, in all flavors.
