Update on Sustainability, Facility Investments & the Turkey Hill Dairy Wind Turbines
CONESTOGA, Pa. (June 26, 2026) — For more than 90 years, Turkey Hill Dairy has remained committed to operating responsibly, supporting its local communities, and continuing to evolve its business with a focus on long-term sustainability.
As part of that ongoing commitment, Turkey Hill Dairy continues to invest in initiatives that support environmental stewardship and operational efficiency across the company. These efforts include the Turkey Hill Clean Water Partnership, maintaining zero waste-to-landfill status, introducing more fuel-efficient fleet vehicles in our distribution fleet, and investing in facility improvements designed to support future growth.
One of the company's long-term renewable energy initiatives included the two wind turbines, owned and operated by a large national energy company and located on property owned by the Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority (LCSWMA). These turbines, located on Turkey Hill overlooking the Susquehanna River, have supported operations at the Turkey Hill Dairy Conestoga facility for more than 15 years.
While the turbines were originally expected to operate through 2030, they have experienced premature failure. After evaluation, our energy partner determined there is no economically viable solution to repair them. As a result, Turkey Hill has reached an agreement with our former partner to decommission the turbines. The turbines will be removed at some time in 2027.
"We're proud of the role the Turkey Hill wind turbines have played in supporting renewable energy efforts in our community over the past 15 years," said Andy Jacobs, CEO of Turkey Hill Dairy. "While the turbines are reaching the end of their operational life sooner than expected, our broader commitment to sustainability and responsible operations remains unchanged."
Following more than 30 years under Kroger ownership, Turkey Hill Dairy became a stand-alone company in 2019, marking the beginning of a significant transformation. In recent years, the company has focused on strengthening operations, driving sales growth, and positioning the business for long-term success.
That momentum has enabled continued investment in the Conestoga facility, including plans for a new on-campus frozen warehouse set to begin construction this summer and expected to be completed by August 2027. In addition to streamlining operations and creating approximately 20 new jobs, the new frozen warehouse is expected to deliver meaningful sustainability benefits by eliminating an estimated 100,000 transportation miles and reducing diesel fuel usage by approximately 400,000 gallons annually. The new facility will also feature a more energy-efficient refrigeration system, LED lighting, and high-speed doors designed to improve overall energy efficiency and operational performance.
Turkey Hill Dairy will continue to evolve its operations in ways that support long-term sustainability, operational efficiency, and responsible growth. From community partnerships to infrastructure investments, the company continues to look for opportunities to make a positive impact across the region it calls home.
