Local Students Receive Kroger Scholars Award

LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (September 15, 2016) — Kerry Fleming, a graduate of Penn Manor High School, and Samantha Himes, a graduate of Eastern York High School have both been named as a 2016 Kroger Scholar and will receive $1,000 to assist with educational expenses for the upcoming school year.

  • Kerry Fleming will be a junior this fall attending West Chester University. She is working towards a degree in nursing and hopes to someday use her skills in neonatal care or research. In her free time, she enjoys outdoor activities, traveling to the beach and hanging out with her friend. She is the daughter of Amy Hess, an employee of Turkey Hill Dairy in Lancaster, PA.
  • Samantha Himes will attend Shippensburg University this fall as a sophomore. She enjoys being involved in mini-THON, Republicans Club and numerous volunteer activities. She hopes to graduate with honors, have a job at the time of graduation and overall, to be happy and successful in all aspects of life. She is the daughter of Duane Himes, an employee of Turkey Hill Dairy in Lancaster, PA.

A program of The Kroger Co. Foundation, Kroger Scholars is open to children of associates across the Kroger family of stores. Funds can be used at an accredited two or four year college, university or vocational program.

For the 2016-2017 school year, 313 students will receive Kroger Scholars awards.
